FACE No. 29

12x6 Oil on Panel

I like working on this format. There is more room to play with the background and to paint the entire photograph. My brush strokes are getting looser and I like that. This was one of my favorites to paint!

REMNANTS OF AN ALL AMERICAN SNACK

Jean Townsend's theme is detritus. She has such a creative spirit. Her theme was quite a challenge. My first thought was to paint my leftover palette, but SOMEONE (a fantastic artist, I must admit ..... Sharon Hodges) beat me to it! And her painting and format was amazing. So that idea went into the detritus file (which is over loaded!) As I sat down with my peanuts, I was just stumped and thinking and thinking of something to paint. I left the shells and went to the studio to paint another mugshot and so frustrated that I just couldn't come up with anything. The mugshot was finished and I came downstairs and saw the remnants of my snack and there it was ..... finally.

FACE No. 26

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

I really worked on being a little looser on this painting and I think I succeeded. I kept the edges soft where needed and a couple of accidental brushstrokes that worked. I like him!

FACE No. 22

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

I found this man's expression very interesting. It wasn't as difficult to tackle as I had thought. However, I am still having problems with eyes and noses! I should pull out one of my anatomy books and study. The more I learn, the more I realize how much there is to learn. It goes on and on! It's a good thing I enjoy the journey!

FACE No. 21

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

These mugshots continue to be fun and a really good learning tool. In addition, painting these faces have provided therapy for me the last few weeks as my daughter-in-law, Heather, was diagnosed with breast cancer. I know that some of you are aware of this through Facebook. For those that don't know, she is doing really well and will begin chemo soon. And, so my therapy (which I love!) will continue .....
