LOBSTER BISQUE

Lobster Bisque ..... is there a better soup?  I had this wonderful delicacy in Portland, Oregon at Higgins.   The fragrance of the lobster, cream, sherry and a hint of garlic was enticing. I thought of this soup when Some Texas Artists Like to Paint offered this month's challenge, "Fragrance."  Please take a minute and look how other artists have interpreted fragrance.

READING

This painting was done from a photograph of a young man reading in a hotel lobby.  He looked very comfortable and was totally engrossed in his book.  Thankfully, my camera did not break his concentration.  I decided to concentrate just on the shapes in the painting with as little detail as possible.  I am submitting to this week's Daily Paintworks Challenge.

I loved painting her big hair.  There was so much of it and it appeared to be long, too.  I began to think of her getting up the morning of the day she was arrested, putting on her make-up and fixing her hair.  Did she have any idea that by the end of the day she would be facing a camera in a police station?  I would assume she didn't, however I just continued to wonder how her day began and then progressed into this mug shot.

BACK TO BASICS #6

These sketches  were done a few years ago with a live model.  I was enrolled in a drawing class at TCU and we were studying the human form.  I enjoy drawing, but haven't pulled out my sketchbook and pencils in quite awhile.  It's basic and I need to return it.  What about you?  Do you sketch regularly, once in awhile, never?

I am still trying to learn the ins and outs of my new computer.  I know that it will eventually be second nature, but I have to say I really miss the familiarity of my old one.  This one is just a little different and so it continues to be a learning experience.
I have fallen behind in my painting, too.  I don't know why things have all of a sudden become so busy.  It happens sometimes, but for the most part I have not let it interfere with my art.  I hope that by next week I will be back in my old routine.  :-)
ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!!!

This was painted on a red acrylic ground.  You can see some of the red peeking through in places.  I also tried to use as few brushstrokes as possible, which is not an easy exercise.  It is so easy to overwork a painting.  I'm pleased with the result.
An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail.

Another mugshot and another fun painting.  I played with color and went for as little detail as I could comfortably get away with.

BACK TO BASICS #5

Using three blocks and a warm light I focused on values again.  This time I am more satisfied with the shadows on the cloth and blocks.  Paying more attention and taking more time with the painting proved helpful.  This was another good lesson.
