LEFTOVERS

8x8 Oil on Gessobord

Part of the fun of painting still lifes is hunting for those things that would be good to paint. I found this child's chair with old red paint and bits and pieces of green paint showing through. What a find! I know I'll be using it again and again. I had some tomatoes and decided to paint them on the chair. The title came from leftover tomatoes and an old leftover chair.

EXPRESS YOURSELF

This was painted for Sharon Hodges' moleskin. Her theme is "Express Yourself" which I do each time I paint. Painting in these moleskins is fun, but a bit stressful. This time my palette fell upside down on Sharon's open book. The page next to my painting has splotches of color and now needs to dry. I apologize, Sharon! I'm a klutz! I hope I get better at this or I'll never be asked to paint in anyone's moleskin again. The moleskins are found at TEXAS MOLESKIN ROUND-UP. You can see some fantastic work there and enjoy following the moleskins!

GREEN JAR

6x6 Oil on Gessobord

I've had a few ..... ok, MANY wipe-outs this last week! I think I'm back on track. I paid a price for being gone for nine days over spring break and it's been hard to get my juju back. Vacation was worth a few bad paintings and the frustration that comes with it. We visited with family in Florida and Alabama and really had a great time. But, as always, it is good to return home. :-)

FULL OF EMPTY PROMISES

6X6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

Empty/full is this month's challenge by Jean Townsend in Some Texas Artists Like to Paint. I thought I would do something a little different and take a saying and apply it to a person and what better person for "full of empty promises" than Bernie Madoff. I found his mugshot on the internet and painted. I'm not a portrait painter and so, not only the subject was a challenge, but also what I chose to paint. Please visit Some Texas Artists Like to Paint to see what others in our group did .... they're fantastic!

GREEN TIMES THREE

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

When I painted these apples a few days ago I took several photographs. I knew I would want to revisit this subject again. The apples have those lovely greens that are hard to pass up.

THREE BOWLS

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

Good Monday to everyone!

I'm still working on loosening up. This little painting was done quickly in order to achieve that goal. Working in a limited amount of time allows one to see only what is important and to put it down. It doesn't allow for fussing with too many details. Carol Marine's exercises have helped me with this. In order to improve it is practice, practice, practice!

WHITE BOWL

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

This is my submission to DPW's weekly challenge - One Color Per Stroke. Although it doesn't look like it, each stroke is a different color. To make the challenge even more difficult (for me!) I chose white on white. What was I thinking?!! I want to do this again (not with white! :)) and will add it to my learning tool box. There are some really great submissions to this challenge. Hope you will take a minute and look at them!

ENJOY THE WEEK-END!!

FRAMED PAINTINGS

These are a few of my paintings that have been framed with frames from King of Frame. I think these frames are perfect for the 6x6 paintings. I've just ordered some for larger paintings. I recommend these frames. To see what is available click HERE.

Green Apples

12x9 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

I painted this in Linda Reedy's studio. She has some fantastic still life props and her studio is so pleasant to paint in with its large windows and space to spread out. And the best is that we have become friends and we have fun painting together. Please check out Linda's blog. Her paintings are amazing! She just moved here from Boston and is represented by Alden Gallery in Cape Cod.

I'm trying to loosen up and with this painting I did to some extent. Still need to work on that, but I am really having a blast trying some new things. This is a larger support that I normally use and that was fun, too.

ANNOUNCING NEW BLOG!

Angela Elledge had a wonderful idea for the Texas artists involved in Some Texas Artists Like to Paint. She was a member of The Flying Moleskins and wanted to do a moleskin project in Texas. There are seven of us taking part in the Texas Moleskin Round-Up ... Angela Elledge, Kay Wyne, Ann Rogers, Jean Townsend, Carol Morgan, Sharon Hodges and me! Each of us has a different theme and we will paint in one moleskin and then mail it to the next person. At the end of this project we will each have seven paintings from different artists. We've begun by painting the first painting in our own book and now they are off!! Click HERE to see what has begun!
