FORT WORTH ROOFTOP

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

This was painted last week while outside on a beautiful day. The house is an old white house with gingerbread trim. I chose to paint a portion of the roof with its interesting angles. Surrounding this house is a neighborhood full of old homes and large trees. I feel sure I will visit it again.

IRIS

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord n

Central Market had these beautiful irises and of course I bought them. It's a reminder that spring is just around the corner - at least officially! With this weather we are having and seeing some of the trees beginning to leaf spring is already here in Texas!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK-END!

THREE PLUMS ON BLUE PLATE

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

The weather here has been absolutely beautiful! I've been painting outside, which I love! However, my paintings need a lot of work (to say the least). I'm going outside again tomorrow and hopefully I'll paint something worth posting. The weather forecast today was for rain, maybe even tornadoes. I decided to stay home. It's been sunny with clouds once in a while. Even though the weather was good, I painted in the studio. Plums were in the fridge and perfect to paint ... and eat!

I am also on Facebook. At some point I will learn how to use it with some degree of efficiency. Now I am still trying to figure it out. :-)

WHITE BOWL

9x12 Oil on Board

I went to the Stockyards this morning with a wonderful group of plein air artists. The weather was perfect and painting was a lot of fun. I was going to have photographs, but I forgot my camera. I'm not posting my painting, because it needs some work. This is a painting I did last week with a support given to me by Linda Reedy. It has a different feeling to it, not as smooth as what I usually work on. I really enjoyed playing with the paint and will be painting on this surface again. It was also nice to paint on a larger surface.

MORE 10 MINUTE PAINTINGS

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

I've been doing quite a few of these 10 minute paintings. They are not only a good learning tool, but they are fun. I haven't photographed my other ones, but when I do I will post them. These paintings are of Smuckers strawberry jelly jar. As you can see in the first one I tried to put in too much detail, but by the last one all detail is gone. Those 10 minutes fly by!!

CABBAGE ROSETTES

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

I found these flowers at Central Market. I bought them to paint for this month's Some Texas Artists Like to Paint challenge. Nancy Medina chose to paint flowers for the month of February. It's a good subject for this month. Click HERE to see some great flower paintings!

TOMATOES IN YELLOW BOWL

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord n

This was really fun to paint. I took a different perspective by looking straight down on the set up. I'd like to do more like this and perhaps do a larger painting.

COFFEE SPOON

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

Spoons are a challenge for me, but I am having fun learning to paint them. I think it is the metal that is difficult. When I took Carol Marine's workshop last October she was very patient in teaching how to paint anything metal and I am just now practicing that part of the lesson (ok I know it's been a while!). Those 10 minute exercises are amazing. I am pleased with this one and will do some more and I might even attempt something else metal. :-)

"I SAY TOMATO ....."

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

"YOU SAY TOMATO!"

The Daily Paintworks Challenge for this week (as if you didn't know) is painting the same subject over and over, with each small painting given 10 minutes. It was really fun and a good learning tool. I am now painting spoons to give me the practice I really need to get myself familiar with that subject. In the past I've worked on white cups and doing this exercise helps. Thank you, Carol Marine, for this challenge!

BALANCING ACT

6X6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

We have a lot of tomatoes, because of a trip to Costco. I thought it was time I painted a tomato - how convenient! They make a good subject with all their reds and these tomatoes had green stems. And what goes better with a tomato - besides bread, bacon and lettuce - basil and mozzarella - avocado, jalapeno, cilantro and limes (I could go on and on!)? Salt, of course! And in this dreary, cold, icy day tomatoes with a little salt are just the thing to remind me that spring is just around the corner!

FLORIDA IMPERIAL

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

This is my submission to Daily Paintworks Challenge and a challenge it was! I've attempted cars - well, one car - once before and failed miserably. Although this is not what I would like it to be, I am fairly pleased with this. It was about my third attempt. Click HERE to view the challenge. There are some spectacular entries. I'm looking forward to each challenge in the future. Thanks Carol! This is going to be fun!

HEAD STUDY

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

After I painted the model last Saturday I had about 20 minutes or so remaining. While grabbing another panel I was wavering on what to paint ..... head or foot (yes, foot!). I began with a quick foot sketch, wiped it out and started on the head. This sketch is the same as when I left the studio. Of course, it needs a lot of work to bring it to a better look, but I am going to leave as is. It's amazing what one can learn and do in just a very short time. One year ago I would never have painted this much on the canvas. In 20 minutes I might have achieved a drawing with just lines. So, note to self, progress has been made. :-)

I hope everyone is staying warm and not getting cabin fever! Here in Texas we have ice and after looking at the weather report it will not warm until Friday.
