HEAD STUDY

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

After I painted the model last Saturday I had about 20 minutes or so remaining. While grabbing another panel I was wavering on what to paint ..... head or foot (yes, foot!). I began with a quick foot sketch, wiped it out and started on the head. This sketch is the same as when I left the studio. Of course, it needs a lot of work to bring it to a better look, but I am going to leave as is. It's amazing what one can learn and do in just a very short time. One year ago I would never have painted this much on the canvas. In 20 minutes I might have achieved a drawing with just lines. So, note to self, progress has been made. :-)

I hope everyone is staying warm and not getting cabin fever! Here in Texas we have ice and after looking at the weather report it will not warm until Friday.

CLEMENTINES IN GREEN BOWL TWO

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

This is the same set up as my last post, but from a different perspective. I think I will do this again with a set up, because there is much to learn about the light, shapes, values, etc. when you look at it from a different angle.

A JOURNEY TOGETHER

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

This couple was walking along the sidewalk in step together, which was amazing because with her short legs her stride was shorter. I watched them and wondered if they finished each other's sentences. It appeared they had been married a long time and cared for each other. Nice scene to run across on a beautiful day.

On another note, please visit Bill Guffey's blog and look at his August 26th post (and his other posts - his paintings are great!). He was interviewed by Canadian tv about his Virtual Paintout blog. If you participate in his challenge each month you might see your painting. Click HERE and this link will take you to his blog. Enjoy!

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND #2

This is my second submission to Virtual Paintout. I have explored Prince Edward Island through Google Street View and although the pictures are not the best, I could still see how beautiful it is. Virtual Paintout is a challenge I look forward to each month. With this scene I simplified greatly to focus on shapes and color. I have a tendency to want to put every detail in my painting so that is a challenge for me, too. I learn more and more each time I paint. I love it!

Here they are again - the usual suspects. Again, this was fun to paint. I think painting the same thing is such a learning experience. I believe I see another painting of make-up in my future!

MAKE-UP

I didn't know what to paint and I didn't want to use a photograph. I pulled out some make-up and began. This was a lot of fun and I am going to try another still life using these same objects. I'd like to use fewer strokes. Maybe use some different backgrounds. We'll see.
