BRUSHES

6x6 Oil on Gessobord
Day 12.  I'm learning that completing a painting and posting that painting every day is not my cup of tea.  This is not a new revelation.  I came to realize quite a while back that the posting became more important than the painting.  It is no different this go round.  I do paint almost every day and in order to grow as an artist the more work put in the better one becomes.  Some artists are very successful with this approach and I really admire that.   However, I am not one that can and, I need to accept that I will not be a good daily painter ... or should I say a good daily poster.  As I said, I do paint just about every day.  Not every piece of work is worth putting out here.  I will complete this challenge, because there certainly are good things about stepping out of one's comfort zone and I am learning about using a limited palette.  Not to mention, it's fun being a part of the challenge with over 200 artists!  Y'all are great!

  1. Isn't it great to know yourself well enough to say what you like, what you don't like, and then be able to stay committed to what you said you would do. Hugs for honesty!

  2. I am loving your colors Linda..they are lovely and soft! Guess what?? I feel exactly the same about posting daily. I normally post 2-3 times a week.

  3. Linda I have to agree. It has become very important to me to get the painting posted ... good, bad or ugly. And I'm not sure that is growth for me. I now have a few paintings that I feel would be pretty good if I did a little more work on them, which I think I will do because I like some of the subjects very much or I will use them as studies. I'm also finding I'm not giving my subjects the thought before I paint that I normally would. Maybe a painting every other day will work out better for me. Maybe 3 a week would be best or more plain air. Glad to hear someone else feeling like I do about the challenge. I have really enjoyed a lot about the challenge... such as getting to know some artists I hadn't known before.

  5. hi Linda, I have to say that I agree with you. I've found that I am not a daily poster either. I also paint most every day. But knowing that I have to produce something worthy of posting everyday makes me cut corners that I don't really want to cut just to get a painting online. I am really enjoying being a part of this group of artists. But I've decided to not stress on the days I don't have something to post. I am a couple paintings behind. But I'm okay with that and I don't think anyone else really cares either. It was a good lesson to learn about myself, and it just makes me appreciate what daily painters do.

  6. Linda, I appreciate your honesty, and agree with you. I do believe that we all have good days and bad days when it comes to creating art. I'm also doing this challenge, and will complete it. But I don't like the pressure of completing a painting daily in order to post. What takes priority... a good painting, or posting? Thank you for expressing what many of us artists feel.

  7. If nothing else, the challenge of painting everyday is a good exercise for all of you. I'm not involved with the challenge but I enjoy seeing all the amazing paintings that are done..

  8. I signed up for the challenge too. I read in the instructions it said something like if you miss, you can paint to make it up and add retroactively...but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that (how to add the "made-up" paintings). Anyway, I agree, it is just too much to put up a painting that doesn't represent you properly. Love these brushes...!

  9. Well said, Linda. But, I do feel the urge to paint every day creeping into me, and that is what I wanted, so to me, even though I would call myself a "slow painter", I am pleased that I've been able to keep up, and happily surprised by the results. Granted, they are not 30 x 50 paintings. Love the shirt painting. Keep up the good work!
