Leslie Saeta is entering her 7th time to host "30 Paintings in 30 Days" beginning January 1st. I've spent some time thinking about joining again and decided that it would be fun. So beginning in January I will post a painting a day and sell each painting for $30.00. Painting each day is a discipline I have followed, but I haven't been posting or working on small supports as I have in the past. I'm looking forward to posting regularly and maybe even trying some new things in the studio. So, I've signed up on Leslie's page and ordered my panels. Ready to paint!!

FOOD DANCE - GREEN APPLE
6x6 Oil on Panel

GRANNY SMITH - GREEN CHILI SALSA
from Cooking Light
Ingredients
- 2 large tomatillos (about 4 ounces)
- 1 cup chopped Granny Smith apple
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped Roasted Anaheim Chiles
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
Preparation
- Discard husks and stems of tomatillos. Cook tomatillos in boiling water 10 minutes or until tender. Drain.
- Place tomatillos in a blender; process until smooth. Combine tomatillo puree, apple, and remaining ingredients

FOOD DANCE - ARTICHOKE

I know this was officially painted in 2013, but it is also the inspiration for my Food Dance Series. I felt I could not leave it out. Each painting in this series will be painted on a 6x6 panel and can be purchased for $100.00.

30 PAINTINGS IN 30 DAYS

I've been on the fence about joining Leslie Seata's 30 day challenge. For some reason I just could not make up my mind. I hate to think what would happen if I had a major decision to make in the last couple of weeks. Good grief! At any rate I did make a decision (finally) and that is to participate and join the more than 300 artists in the challenge. And I even made a decision on what to paint ..... "Food Dance."

30 PAINTINGS IN 30 DAYS CHALLENGE
I had a difficult time deciding whether or not to participate in Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. I want to work larger and doing 30 daily paintings in 30 days calls for a smaller format. However, since the move I have had so many wipe offs that I need a big push to return to a working routine and this fits the bill. I plan to work on larger works, too, but these small paintings will aid in that direction. I have no theme. Last January for this challenge I painted with a limited palette. Next month I am just going to paint and perhaps these small paintings will inspire larger ones (that actually stay on the canvas!). To all the artists that are participating I really look forward to seeing what you paint! It's really fun!!!

Day 30 and done! Wow! Thirty paintings in 30 days completed. It's been a good journey and I've gained knowledge about myself and using a very limited palette. Thank you, Leslie Saeta, for a fun challenge! I think Crystal Cook expressed my thoughts perfectly about this challenge and I have put her link at the end of my post. Today is my three year "blogaversary!" Holy cow!! I've met some fantastic artists through the blogosphere. I've experienced inspiration and encouragement beyond what I could ever expect and I have to say THANK YOU!! Every comment and email has meant so very much to me. And meeting some of you in person .... wow! It has just been an experience that has added so much to this art journey on which I am traveling. So, again, I have to express gratitude to you, my friends, THANK YOU!!!

FIRST 2013 CHALLENGE
I am going to begin 2013 with a challenge set by Leslie Saeta, as she stated on Facebook and her blog .... 30 paintings in 30 days. January holds at least two trips for me, but I think I can still do it. To add to Leslie's challenge I want to explore a limited palette. I hope to gain knowledge and control with only three colors and white. The choice is to use one palette for the 30 paintings or mix it up and use different palettes. My decision is to use one palette for the entire month and explore it as much as possible. Decision no. 2 is what colors should I use? I did some research (which was overwhelming!) and there is an incredible number of limited color palettes. I narrowed the number down by focusing on well known artists such as Anders Zorn, Kevin McPherson, Lori Putnam, and many more. As I said it is overwhelming, but I had to choose just one and after thinking it over I decided it really didn't matter which palette I chose. I just need to stick with it for the 30 day duration and I know I will learn from it. So .... drum roll, please ..... I chose the Lori Putnum limited palette. Her paintings are stunning and with a simple click to her blog I can access useful information that will help me with this journey.
Lori's palette consists of Cad Yellow Medium, Pyrol Red, Ultramarine Blue and Titanium White. She uses and recommends Blue Ridge Oil Paints. I determined to go all the way and ordered those colors from Blue Ridge.
To begin my study I made a traditional color wheel and hope to do a Munsell color wheel, too. I also took the primary colors and secondary colors and made an abbreviated color chart by adding white to 4 values. And, again, I hope to get another color chart painted making neutrals. I've done color charts before and I highly recommend them.
The 30 in 30 challenge officially begins January 2. So check back and see what happens with my paintings and check out Leslie's blog and join the challenge! It's going to be fun!!
