BACK TO BASICS #6

These sketches  were done a few years ago with a live model.  I was enrolled in a drawing class at TCU and we were studying the human form.  I enjoy drawing, but haven't pulled out my sketchbook and pencils in quite awhile.  It's basic and I need to return it.  What about you?  Do you sketch regularly, once in awhile, never?

    Gros bisous.

  3. Hi Linda, thanks for sharing your sketches. I've been thinking about drawing myself lately. I used to do small, thumbnail sketches daily, but I've gotten away from it. I need to get started again, and seeing your beautiful sketches has inspired me!

  4. I started following Nancy Van Blaricom's blog and she has featured her sketchbook for the last couple of months. I love seeing her sketchbook and it has inspired me to sketch more. I try to sketch every night now. My husband is usually sleeping so he is an easy target ;) Love seeing your sketches...they are excellent. I can't wait to see more!

  6. From Alison-
Dear Linda I really like to see your sketches ... In my case, I like drawing. the drawing is the fundamental basis of my paintings. I think that sometimes we paint must face the difficulty of drawing when not drawing ... Just as the music is similar to the ranges that are the pianists ... Big hugs.

  7. Not as much as I should! But thanks for the reminder. Seems that at least once a day I wish I'd brought my camera with me, or better yet my sketchbook. Drawing practice is something I think a lot of painters neglect, but it really is fundamental (to realists). It all starts with a good drawing!

  8. Nice work Linda, very nice sketches. I sketch occasionally but never enough, sometimes I catch sketch class and get to sketch a live model. Most of us need to draw more, just not as much fun as the gooey paints, lol.

  9. Nice sketches!
I sometimes sketch with my friends and draw from life sporadically. Recently I took a workshop and I was surprised that the teacher's main critique of me was some drawing "problems". I was surprised, because I felt I was one of the stronger draw-ers in the class. The workshop teacher corrected some of my perspective. It makes me realize that many of us neglect drawing, but that it is the foundation to everything! I am now trying to go to life drawing at least once a week. They are just sessions, without instruction. I can always tell paintings that were painted by people who have never painted/drawn from life. Things look "dead".

  10. These look pretty good to me! I try to get to life class once a week and before I go I always intend to "break out" and be bold. But, inevitably, I get caught up in trying to do everything "right" and of course, am not bold at all. On the positive side, I am seeing so much more in terms of light and shadow and reflected light and am accepting that if I can't see delineation, don't put it in. I'll get there . . . Lucky girl to be close to so many museums with major shows! Thanks always for your generous comments on my blog—it is sooooo appreciated!
