FACE No. 15

6x6 Oil on Paper
NFS
Phineas Taylor Barnum 1810-1891

This is not a mugshot, but a portrait of P.T. Barnum. It's a painting for Carol Morgan's moleskin. Her theme is "Sides." Mr. Barnum was known for his sideshows which began when he was only 25 years old. He paid Joice Heath $1,000.00 to be put on exhibit. She claimed to be 161 years old and a nurse for George Washington. From this exhibit he made about $1,500.00 per week! And thus began the sideshow and soon his Barnum & Bailey Circus.

FACE No. 1

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

It's been a while since I've posted any paintings. I've painted quite a few, but I didn't want to post them because I was on a mission to get better at painting faces - specifically mugshots. Karin Jurick's series was excellent and I learned so much just by looking at her work and reading her commentary. I have a few that I feel comfortable posting now and I plan to continue this series. I find it so interesting that everyone has the same parts, but each person looks so different. Amazing! Karin has completed 104 paintings and each one is unique and beautiful. I'm not committing to a number, but I am loving doing this. So here is the first of what I hope to be many!
