This is my submission to SOME TEXAS ARTISTS LIKE TO PAINT challenge for August which is Dreams. There are so many thoughts and ideas about dreams that it was difficult to decide what to do until I ran across an old black and white photograph of Sigmund Freud. I need practice with values (as always!) and thought this would be a good exercise and also a really fun painting to do. My husband's undergraduate degree is in psychology and I typed up many a paper with Freud's name in it. I felt I ran across an old friend. A JOURNEY TOGETHER

This couple was walking along the sidewalk in step together, which was amazing because with her short legs her stride was shorter. I watched them and wondered if they finished each other's sentences. It appeared they had been married a long time and cared for each other. Nice scene to run across on a beautiful day.

This is my second submission to Virtual Paintout. I have explored Prince Edward Island through Google Street View and although the pictures are not the best, I could still see how beautiful it is. Virtual Paintout is a challenge I look forward to each month. With this scene I simplified greatly to focus on shapes and color. I have a tendency to want to put every detail in my painting so that is a challenge for me, too. I learn more and more each time I paint. I love it!

My third make-up painting. Now I am wondering if there is another one on the horizon. I am learning quite a lot painting the same subject. Of course, I learn from each painting I do. Happily the learning continues. Although, I have to admit I wish the learning would come quicker pace. :-)

Here they are again - the usual suspects. Again, this was fun to paint. I think painting the same thing is such a learning experience. I believe I see another painting of make-up in my future!

I didn't know what to paint and I didn't want to use a photograph. I pulled out some make-up and began. This was a lot of fun and I am going to try another still life using these same objects. I'd like to use fewer strokes. Maybe use some different backgrounds. We'll see.
