JEAN TOWNSEND 2 - ANOTHER TEXAS MUG

8x8 oil on Ampersand Cradled Panel
This is another painting of Jean Townsend.  I wanted to paint her again and decided to use a larger support.  It was a bit of a struggle, but I am satisfied with the result.  I'll post this again in Some Texas Artists Like to Paint.

BETSY "EAGLE EYE" STEVENSON

4x4 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

"Betsy “Eagle Eye” Stevenson.  She is deceptively innocent looking.  She is a frequent world traveler who has been know to shoot in Italy and France as well as throughout the United States.   Along with being an expert shot our sources say she may well just set up an easel and capture images on site.  Beware of easels in the field...easels on the beach...beware!  We know is she is armed with a SLR and dangerous to those who don’t want to be immortalized on canvas."

CHRIS "THE MONIKER" WERST

4x4 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

"Chris “the Moniker” Werst  comes by her alias honestly.  She misses nothing.    At beaches, Galleries, tourist attractions...She retains everything.  She is very proficient at finding out and remembering names of people, places and things.  She uses this to her advantage.  She will call your name and then act like she knows you...by the time you realize she is a stranger it is too late...you are digitally immortalized and destined to become canvas bound.  Her whereabouts is totally unknown as she does not...at this writing...have a blog."
Artfully written by Maria Hock.
Chris, you will love having a blog!!

HANGING WITH KARIN!!

This fabulous sign was made by Regula Scheifele, an HHG member!  She also wrote the following post -

"Almost all of the Hilton Head Gang members are taking part in the 'A Sense of Place' exhibition at the Sedona Arts Center. As is Karin Jurick! - so the above sign definitely applies....

The Gang has debated whether to attend, mails have been exchanged and advise given. We decided to take the risk of 'public appearance', so it's definitely a chance to see the HHG. If only through our master pieces!

The show's opening is January 25th - today! - with Sedona's "First Friday" Artwalk and reception on February 3rd. The exhibit will continue through February 14th."
Regula is a fantastic artist so please take a minute and look at her blog!

I haven't posted my painting for "A Sense of Place."  I don't know why - maybe I am superstitious!  I didn't think I was, but I guess I am.  I'm hoping my painting will find a very nice home! :-)

NANCY "THE GUARDIAN" DARLING

4x4 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

We are looking for Nancy “The Guardian” Darling so named because of her help with rescue dogs.  She often travels with a large pack of dogs which hampers her ability to shoot but that does not prevent her from trying.  She uses the dogs to attract unsuspecting subjects then while they are being distracted...she shoots.  It is a devious but very effective plan.  I hear she and her pack will be heading up to Alaska to participate in the Iditarod...that may be a false lead...just be on the lookout...
You may find more clues to her whereabouts on her blog...
Nancy Darling
Also, please visit Maria Hock's blog as she is the gang member who took all the photos and writes the descriptions!!

GOT SUGAR?

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

This is my grandson, Ben, wearing an old hat and after eating cake with powdered sugar on it.  He had sugar everywhere!  I had to take a photo and I had a lot of fun painting his little sugar mug!

JEAN - A Texas Mug!

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord
This is Jean Townsend, a fabulous Texas artist (an introduction, just in case you haven't met her).  We've been promising each other to send photos of each other to paint and we finally did.  And I have to tell you that I had a blast painting Jean's mug.  She sent 3 great photos (and, yes I am going to paint them all - maybe more than once).  In this reference photograph, Jean wore a huge frown and smudged lipstick.  Just wonderful!  I've painted this not only for my pleasure and blog, but for Some Texas Artists Like To Paint.  The January challenge is mug shots.  Please check out these two blogs!

FACE No. 53

4x4 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

I've been having some computer problems - well, actually user problems.  I have painted several small paintings and lost them in cyber space.  I finally found them and transferred all photos I had taken to where they belong.  I lost them in an attempt to be better organized in the new year.  Kind of a joke!  Now it is fixed and I am still determined to better organize all my photos.  There are soooo many!  Any suggestions of how you do it would be more than welcome!

FACE No. 52

4x4 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

Here is number 52 of my mug shot series.  I have another one on the easel.  I just don't think I will be stopping in the near future.  However, I am giving some thought to painting some still lifes.  I haven't done that in quite a while and I think the change would be good.

ROXANNE

4x4 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

Another notorious member of the Hilton Head Gang!
Roxanne “The Streak” Duke is so named because she is stealthy.  She streaks by and shoots at will and disappears before detected by unsuspecting victims.  Roxanne flies under the radar...finding a photo of her was not easy...we had to scour the internet, check past files and canvas neighborhoods just to find this one.  We don’t know when the photo was taken...her look may have changed.  Scrutinize everyone you see...
For more information about Roxanne check out her blog at:

SHERRIE

4x4 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

Another infamous Hilton Head Gang member!

Sherrie “the Kid” Hilliard known as the kid because she specializes in painting children.  She scours beaches and playgrounds looking for innocent little ones to shoot.  Parents be on the lookout for Sherrie, The Kid...she will shoot your kids then immortalize them on canvas...they may even end up in a gallery.  She drove off Hilton Head Island with enough material to keep her busy for months.  She is probably hold up in a secret hideout....painting, painting, painting...
For more information or possible clues to her whereabouts check out Sherrie’s blog:

In other news (do I sound professional?!) a wonderful artist and friend has a new website.  Please take a minute and check it out!

STORMY

This portrait of Stormy was painted in Angela Elledge's moleskin for the Texas Moleskin Round-Up.  Angela is a known dog lover and she paints beautiful dog portraits.  I thought Stormy would be a good addition to her book.

Stormy was adopted by my three grandchildren, Abby, Ben and Asher after she was abandoned by her previous owner.  She is a sweet and very smart dog.  Although, when she proof read this post she didn't understand why I identified her as a dog!

I must add a belated HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!!  I had a wonderful holiday with family and am just now getting back to my normal (did I say normal?) routine.  I got up to the studio yesterday and I have to admit to being rusty after 3 weeks of not painting.  I've missed it and very happy to be able to work again. :-)
