5x7 Oil on Canvas Board
This is my submission to June's challenge on Virtual Paintout. This month our visit took us to Hawaii. I wanted to simplify the scene and try just seeing shapes. I also simplified my palette and decided to try Kevin Macpherson's palette of ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, cad yellow pale and titanium white. There are definitely some changes I would make, but for what I was trying I think I succeeded. Click here to see some great art!
Hi Linda, lovely job with these sailboats. I like how you have painted just the essence of this scene, the feeling really comes through without lots and lots of details. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI also like the longhorn cadillac! I'll have to check out some of these challenges that you are involved in . . . .
thanks for mentioning them.

Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I haven't been checking out your blog knowing you were away. I love your tips on storing paintings. How lucky to be in Hawaii!
I like your "new look" here on your blog..and your sailboats have a graphic quality that I very much enjoy! I approve very much of Kevin McPherson's palette. This came out great!
ReplyDeleteOh, someone mentioned the longhorn Caddy, that one reminded me of cross country adventures usually 9 days to visit granny on the opposite coast... I also like how you have distilled this dock scene with simply stated boat shapes. I don't feel bogged down with a lot of extra unnecessary marks.
ReplyDeleteYes, I like the graphics here-nice clear shapes and color that doesn't overwhelm, but still gives a sunny feel to the day.
ReplyDeleteLinda, this is so amazing! It has a haunting graphic quality that i just love. The composition is as perfect as the palate. Great job.
