HEAD STUDY

6x6 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord

After I painted the model last Saturday I had about 20 minutes or so remaining. While grabbing another panel I was wavering on what to paint ..... head or foot (yes, foot!). I began with a quick foot sketch, wiped it out and started on the head. This sketch is the same as when I left the studio. Of course, it needs a lot of work to bring it to a better look, but I am going to leave as is. It's amazing what one can learn and do in just a very short time. One year ago I would never have painted this much on the canvas. In 20 minutes I might have achieved a drawing with just lines. So, note to self, progress has been made. :-)

I hope everyone is staying warm and not getting cabin fever! Here in Texas we have ice and after looking at the weather report it will not warm until Friday.

  2. You really got a nice drawing and value study. I like it as it is, but you did such a good job that if you chose to develope it further you could.

  3. I think this is beautiful, it has a great feel to it. Painting so fast reminds me that the color choices, shapes and values come from the gut!
I'm in Houston and it's cold here too, though not as bad as other parts of the country. But we Houstonians don't like it. :)

  4. Il n'y a pas de miracle! Il n'y a que du travail... et l'huile de coude régulièrement utilisée apporte beaucoup de satisfaction...

  5. Thanks for your wonderful comments on my post, Linda. I think this is a perfect oil sketch of a head- you got ALL the important parts! It says 'head' and all the shadows are right on. I love quick sketches - you can't hide in them!
